Summer Jokes that Still Centered Around Ava

Ava was technically supposed to be absent throughout the summer months since (a) the strip was starting to center around her (makes no sense for a strip called teenage Sith apprentice) and (b) there's no logical reason Ava would live on the Death Star III during the summer holidays.

But some of the jokes still revolved around her. Like this one:
Sorry if the letters appear as too small to read. . .

Anyway.

Funny how a lot of my jokes are misfoldings of things I didn't find funny at all in their original form. This joke sprung from a book about conspiracy theories and secret societies - Conspiracy Theories and Secret Societies for Dummies. The same place Rachel's intro comic came from.

Anyhow, they had a section on conspiracy theories about Jews. They said that maybe one of the reasons the Jews became such popular targets was that they live almost everywhere.

For some reason that bit of information mixed with Luke Skywalker's death scene in my head. I didn't find that astral projection scene to be even remotely funny either. (Except maybe in terms of how I was trying to write a story at the time with a character in it who could astrally project without one iota of effort. Now that's bad timing.) The original draft of this comic was kind of a parody of Luke's death scene. . . and, yup, Ava had to be there for it to work. I wasn't patient enough to wait until Ava's return to write that one, so I edited it such that I could do it with Ava there only in name. (Granted, even in the original draft she was only ever there in spirit. Honestly, if I'd wanted to write out the original draft, I'd have had to wait until April Fool's Day. It was basically Ava pulling a prank on Anne using astral projection.)

As a side note, the Emperor has only one rule for Anne's slumber parties. She may invite whoever she likes. She may do whatever she likes. She may play music as loud as she wants. As long as all of this happens on the South Pole of the Death Star (the Emperor lives in a tower on the North Pole).

In this comic, Anne is sort of borrowing from Ava's religion. Her reply in Panel One interprets "uncleanliness" in a fairly spiritual, religious sense - rather than in the sense that she has just been rolling around in a Dumpster.

Bet this freaked out her father no end, by the way. Sort of like when Anne had a Star of David decoration in her room. . . Palpatine got a little nervous. The last thing he wants is for his daughter to find religion. The list of 1001 reasons why begins with the sixth commandment. . .
