Mind Games

Tables turned. You played the same trick on Anne, remember, Palaptine? In Anne V. Flight Class. I don't like the Reye character very much. Not since finding out Luke got killed off to make room on center stage for her. Other than that, I think I got this from A Series Of Unfortunate Events , where Lemony Snicket remarks that putting things in perspective rarely works. Aren't you studying advertising in college so you can take over the world through subliminal messaging, Anne? I get the feeling I was reading  a lot of Dogbert-centric Dilbert at the time of this writing.

June 2019 Begins

Image
Sorry today's post is kinda late. Quick note: Ava doesn't feature in any of the June 2019 comics. Well, a couple. I was trying to remove her from the strip through the summer vacation so I could recenter the strip around Anne. Ava returned in. . . I forget whether it was August or September. Either way, it was probably going to happen my motives notwithstanding. . . I mean, is Ava going to head back to the Death Star III with Anne over the summer? Here's how Anne kicked off her summer. And no, I don't have a clue what she actually did. Teenage logic. I say this all the time. Granted, I'm usually not in traction when I say it. Then, in lieu of a miserable camping trip, Anne got lost in her own home: Your summer going well so far, Anne?  Then she got philosophical about it all. . . Fitting she should mention Calvin and Hobbes - it's her parent strip. I was reading a lot of both Dilbert and Calvin and I noticed they both h

Now let's see what Nick and Ava have been up to. . . Murphy's Law is one of my nemeses. The only one, actually. I could spend ages rehearsing and laughing at times when "it didn't work when I was alone, but when I had an audience. . .!" or "I could do this perfectly when you weren't watching!" (By the way, that's the way I often think of my writing. It always sounds so much better inside my head.) Awwwwww. . . you two are so sweet. And TSA so often doesn't have strips with any emotional driver besides amusement. Most of the time that's just that this is a comedy, not a love story, but it's also because Nick is not an easy character to use. The worldbuilding I chose makes it hard to invent a reason for his presence. Y'see, most of the action in TSA takes place in Ava and Anne's apartment and Nick has no reason to want to go there - he'd rather not walk right into Anne's territory. But I'm a

Anne's Brief Foray Into Professional Demolition

And it was a very brief foray. Ava saw to that.  You aren't helping your case, Anne. And, BTW. . . how in the world does he know you're a terrorist? Did you walk in there and say, "Hi, I'm a Sith and I want to conquer the galaxy and crush all those who oppose me, now let's talk about the possibility of your demolitions firm hiring me"? This is your once-in-a-blue-moon deus ex machina , Anne. Hope you're enjoying it. (There was no way she would have really gotten hired. That needed some literary license.) How this story ended: Anne showed up for work the next day and managed to pocket several plastic explosives. Ava found them and made sure Anne got fired over it. The end.

Doctor Visit Gone Wrong

I just loved the look on Ava's face when he hands her a gas mask. . . And, yeah, that's what that is. I can't draw one with any sort of realism and the point of this strip is to be incredibly goofy, not particularly serious, so I took the part of Vader's mask that goes over his mouth and nose and drew that instead. That's the only part of Vader's mask I can actually draw. Again, Doc Blain isn't much of a doctor. He's kind of moonlighting. . . which explains why Ava, who is flat broke, can afford him. (Her health might be better served if she didn't bother.) Blain was technically telling the truth in Panel One, when he said he hadn't dropped another bottle of anesthetic. He still hasn't cleaned up the last one.

Anne the Angry

Image
Anne and Ava are best friends. . . Anne is a loyal Sith. . . And Ava can very clearly beat Anne in a fight. What's a Sith to  do. . .  Envious anyone? Also. . . Anne. . . bear in mind. . . not sure how much right you have to be angry with a telemarketer considering you're studying cigarette advertising with the express intention of taking over the world through subliminal messages. Not sure what I was thinking when I wrote this.
